Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11th March 2024 Ireland

Larissa Tormey, the acclaimed singer-songwriter hailing from Ireland's picturesque Co. Westmeath, has always been guided by an unwavering emotional connection to her music. Recently, while tuning into an RTE program celebrating Irish Folk music, Larissa stumbled upon a rendition of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" by Dolores Keane that resonated deeply within her. Reflecting on the tumultuous state of the world today, Larissa was moved to tears by the song's poignant message.

"As soon as I heard it," Larissa shares, "I started to cry! It reflects on all the turmoil that's going on now, conflicts where ordinary people and children are suffering because of the wrong political decisions of the world leaders."

Originally penned by American singer-songwriter Pete Seeger in 1955, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" draws lyrical inspiration from the traditional Russian folk song "Koloda-Duda". Seeger infused the composition with an Irish melody and first published its initial three verses in Sing Out! magazine. Joe Hickerson later added additional verses in May 1960, transforming it into a circular song.

The song's enduring impact led to its 1964 release as a Columbia Records Hall of Fame series 45 single, ultimately earning induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002 within the Folk category.

Produced by Kevin Whyms in Dublin, Larissa's rendition of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" offers a fresh perspective, combining her classical music training with a decade of experience in Irish folk music. The result is an original interpretation that promises to captivate audiences with its authenticity and depth.

With its release timed to coincide with St. Patrick's Day in just three days' time, Larissa hopes her rendition of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" will serve as a heartfelt gift to her listeners.

"Where Have All the Flowers Gone" is available today on all major music platforms, inviting audiences to experience Larissa Tormey's evocative interpretation of this timeless classic.
